The Ghana Civil-Society Cocoa Platform (GCCP) have expressed deep concern and disappointment over the newly announced farm-gate price of cocoa by the Minister of Finance for the 2025/2026 season.
In a press statement issued on 5th August 2025, the group stated that the newly announced farm-gate price of USD 5,040 per metric tonne, which is said to represent a 62% increase from last season’s USD 3,100, is “misleading”.
They argued that the current economic hardship, exacerbated by the adverse impacts of climate change on cocoa production and the high cost of labour, renders the actual price increment from GH¢3,100 to GH¢3,228.75 woefully inadequate compensation for the hard work of cocoa farmers.
They called on the government to introduce new policies to address the challenges facing cocoa farmers to promote a more “equitable, resilient and sustainable cocoa industry in Ghana.
